Rising Strong

Rising Strong by Dr. Brene Brown

Brene Brown coached me on how to become more vulnerable in her book Daring Greatly, she gave me permission to be imperfect in The Gifts of Imperfection and in this book, she provided me with space to fall and fail without judgment and the compassion and tools needed to rise. Because of this book, I was encouraged to own my story and challenge confabulations that I have asserted as truth in order to lead a more wholehearted life.

therapy

Push by Jurgen Matthesius

If you've ever felt stuck and wondered what your purpose is in life and it feels like you can't hear God speaking to you...then perhaps you should "pray until something happens" and read this book.

Understanding the Purpose and Power of Men by Dr. Myles Monroe

This book was a powerful read for me! The text draws you in with relatable biblical references and real-life examples to help men (and women) explore what the role of a man entails. For my own edification, I learned about the complexities of manhood from a biblical perspective and the role men should play in life, the home, and in relationships. It's a great book for women to gain insight on how to love and treat a Christian man. It also serves as a playbook for men wanting to live out their role the way God intended.

 mental health

Codependent No More by Melody Beattie

Often times the term "codependent" is associated with drug or alcohol addiction, but this book debunks the myths and miseducation around the term and provides relatable anecdotes, historical references, and digestible research bits that provide a greater understanding of what it means to put others first at your own expense. As a therapist, it has been an amazing reference for bibliotherapy and as a helper (sometimes to my detriment), I found the book to be extremely relevant, helpful, and applicable.

personal development

The Gifts of Imperfection by Dr. Brene Brown

This book gives you permission to be ALL that you are - whole, messy, frustrated, excellent, tired, and more. The easy-to-read text helps you to learn more about vulnerability, self-compassion, implications of negative-self-talk, and how striving for perfection really isn't worth it.

The Mingling of Souls by Matt Chandler

My friend (aka prayer partner) and I often talk about the type of love we desire. We bypass praying for a "husband" or a "wedding" and instead pray that God blesses us with a soul mate who turns into a life partner. We were often challenged on our beliefs that this type of love exists. Even in our perceived naivety, we remained steadfast in our conviction that we were worthy. In this book, you will experience Solomon's love - an unconditional, passionate, protective, enduring, and intimate love. His journey will help you to believe that TRUE LOVE exists.

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

This book never gets old. I have ready it numerous times. The message in this book is nourishment for the mind, spirit, and heart. With messages as powerful as the secrets you learn in this text, you will find yourself reading and re-reading the pages of this book to help you recalibrate your vibrations as an everyday responsibility in order to live out the highest expression of your being. And that call-to-action, is a never-ending duty on this journey called life.

Psychologist

Understanding the Purpose and Power of Woman by Dr. Myles Monroe

I read the men's version of this book and it was so informative and eye-opening, it inspired me to read this version. I learned so much about the purpose of a man's role within God's kingdom and in relationships. As a woman, I was curious to dive into this edition to gain insight into how women can lead their best lives in order to intentionally fulfill their Godly role as individuals, partners, family members, friends, and civil servants.

DaringGreatlyBook

Daring Greatly by Dr. Brene Brown

"Daring Greatly" is an example of when God intercedes into your life through an author. Because of Dr. Brene Brown, my heart was softened and as a result, blessings poured in. While reading this book, I cried, I wrote, I talked, I got rejected, and some of my worse nightmares came true. But in the end, I got everything I dared greatly to receive. I am eternally grateful for the challenge this book presented to me and to myself for being brave enough to accept.

when the heart waits

When The Heart Waits by Sue Monk Kidd

I had finished reading Daring Greatly (3 times) and wholeheartedly accepted the challenge to be vulnerable and to "show up and be seen" as Dr. Brene Brown would say. I was looking for a new book to help me process the fact that I completed one life chapter but had not yet entered the next one. I was simply waiting, hence me loving the title of this book. "When the Heart Waits" absolutely helped me during a critical stage in my life and constantly replays in my mind. The words on the pages became my source of strength.

purpose

The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren

"The Purpose Driven Life" is an oldie but goody transformational book that grounded me and contextualized my journey to discovering my purpose and deeper sense of belonging, connection, and calling outside of my own understanding. Each chapter helped me to unpack one of life's toughest questions ----  WHAT IS MY PURPOSE AND HOW DO I FULFILL IT?

therapist

The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson

A friend gifted me with this book for my birthday and it was a total gem. I was encouraged throughout the book to become a prayer warrior, learning how to literally pray circles around my greatest desires. I also gathered tools on how to remain positive and faithful in the process. Let's just say I took heed to the advice in the book and it WORKED!
